Hidden Treasure!

Yesterday was Mothers Day here in the UK and I was pleasantly surprised by the unsolicited morning greeting I got from all four of my children. I even got a lovely joint pressie from them too ... which was even more surprising since dh was away (again) ! But it gets better .. not chocolates , not flowers but 2 sets of the most gorgeous underwear .. organised by my daughter! They really are very pretty ... they even fit too. Thank you my lovely children. Of course duty done Mothers Day was finished as far as they were concerned and it was bearly 9am! Oh hum !

I spent the rest of the day making a cooked English breakfast, a roast beef dinner and digging in my garden. Now I can say "my garden" because no one else in my family does anything remotely in it that might be classified as gardening ... unless lounging in a chair watching me do it qualifies. Good job I like it then isn't it.... Originally the garden was a field of pig pens, hen house and concrete out-buildings. Today we almost have a lovely English garden -- except I cant plant roses because the roving deer I affectionately call Bambi insists on eating them just as soon as they come into bud! So yesterday I spent several hours hauling out stone after stone of outbuilding buried long ago. So far I have pulled out 14 bags of rubbish and I am only half way through this bed. But I am confident that one day the stones will give way to hidden treasure and I will find myself pleasantly surprised ... just like I was with my children today!

Frog in my throat!

I've been sick again this week!  I hate being sick. I'm not a good patient and I hate lying around feeling like death warmed up but 'that was the week that was' for me!  I'm still not well but I cant sit around anymore besides I had another custom party pump bag to make ... India is 5 tomorrow and she is having a prince and princesses dress-up party. The 'prince' costume for my ds will be makeshift and quick .. a crown and a sash. I shall do this tomorrow morning. The pump bag I made .. very slowly in a fuzz today. I chose lovely frogs on a pink background because all princesses need a frog to kiss !

The Green Quilt!

A new quilt entered the house this week just in time for No 1 sons return home from his extended training 'holiday' in the States. He came back all big and beefy with triceps the size of footballs!  (Hard to believe I gave birth to him)  The quilt is green - of course!  Very green .. all sorts of tones and shades and bits of this and that .. all thrown into the mixing pot with no planning or cares!  It was a very liberating quilt to make and turned out much larger than I had originally planned. It is sitting on a UK kingsize bed (a US queen) so that should give you some idea how big it is but dont ask for measurements because I've forgotten!  The backing fabric is a gorgeous Bali print batik in brown and gold and I quilted it with my fav pattern of the year - Luscious Leaves in a large 17" format. It quilted up a dream on  Matildas Own wadding and I'm really pleased with it.  Its a Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle design from their book ... The Modern Quilt Workshop .  There website is Fun Quilts which is worth a visit for design a and colour inspiration.
